Got VRIS ?

« on: September 15, 2008, 07:51:09 PM »

For those of you that haven't gone to an autocross (AutoX), it's basically a course on an open concrete/parking lot marked out by traffic  cones. It's a safe alternative to testing out your suspension, and more importantly, your driving skill. It's not so much about sheer power as it is handling and skill (a lot of the miata guys and rick can attest to this). Anyway, here's some info on AutoX and the schedule of the remaining events of this season. You don't have to have a specially prepped car, a lot of people that go take their daily drivers out, including me Cheesy. If it's safe to drive on the street, it's safe for autoX. You will however be required to wear helmets, if you don't have one though they rent them out at the events for $10 and a driver's license (so you don't go running off with their helmet). I would suggest bringing a tire gauge.

You can pre-register before any event (Nellis events REQUIRE pre-registration) at www.lvsrcca.org, or you can register the day of the event. I suggest pre-registering since you won't have to fill out paperwork at the event.

LVRSCCA requires all participants to have a membership in order to race. However, if you are not a member, you can still participate but you must pay a $15 temporary weekend membership on top of the regular member fee.

Registration opens at 7:00am / closes at 8:30am / First car out 9:00am

Entry fee: all events except LVMS: $40 for members, $55 for non-members (includes a temporary weekend membership of $15)
LVMS events: $50 for members, $65 for non-members (includes a temporary weekend membership of $15)

Helmet rentals: $10 and you must turn in your driver's license to the person renting you out a helmet.

So here's the rest of the events for 2008:

Sunday September 28, 2008 @ Nellis AFB
Sunday October 12, 2008 @ Las Vegas Motor Speedway (LVMS)
Sunday November 23, 2008 @ Las Vegas Motor Speedway (LVMS)
Sunday, December 14, 2008 @ Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch (SMMR): Pahrump, NV

For any other info, visit the lvrscca autocross page at http://lvrscca.org/?page_id=11

(autoX veterans, if i missed anything please feel free to yell LOL)

i dont autox :[ i have a slow fwd.

Dave Hironaka has a slower FWD car than your street car.

He takes 1st in pax usually, and quite often also fastest time of day, because of his driving ability.... sometimes with 300+WHP less than other competitors.

He's proof that seat seat time is everything, practice makes perfect, and your car is only the major limiting factor if you don't have to turn the steering wheel.

i know ;] im just being an ass. once upon a time i did alright too. we'll see how this one goes!

Round 13 - 2007-09-28

1 m       50       Hironaka, David    89 Honda Civic Si     98.815
2Tm       150       Morgan, Pamela    89 Honda Civic Si    104.015
3Tm       2362    Yorgans, Ardie    06 Scion tC    105.470

look ma, no supercharger!

actually, i might as well remove it, save the 60lbs up front, save gas mileage, save oil, return to STS, and lose ~20hp.

1       55       Rowland, Richard    87 Mazda Rx-7    105.178
2Tm       555       Rowland II, Rick    87 Mazda Rx-7    106.852

your dad totally got you that day :[
